First CEEVC Research Retreat a smashing success!
On May 9th, the CEEVC Research committee held a research retreat with CEEVC Council Members and Old Dominion University Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty at HRSD Headquarters in Virginia Beach. This retreat was held to forge a closer relationship between the CEEVC and the faculty at ODU and maximize the Council’s support for the CEE Faculty research activities. The attendees were divided into four groups: Transportation, Structural/Geotech/Coastal, Environmental Biofuels, and Environmental General, The retreat with a success with 18 participants, half ODU faculty and half practicing engineers and leaders in the engineering community in Hampton Roads. Topics discussed were:
- What industry drivers affect you? What industry help can you envision needing? What skills should an industry mentor have to benefit you?
- What professional societies are useful for networking? In what ways can you envision involving faculty on research/projects/initiatives, etc.? How can you promote faculty’s thought leadership in their area of expertise?
This retreated allowed for open dialog between the Council and the ODU Faculty to brianstorm and share ideas to see how the CEEVC could help and support the ODU CEE faculty in their research initiatives and the ODU CEE Students. Because of the success of this years retreat, next years Research Retreat is tentatively set for May 19, 2019. The CEEVC thanks Pennoni for the generosity for sponsoring the event.
